Ethics, labor standards and responsible sourcing
The following principles structure Vicari Violland’s CSR commitments and apply to business conduct, teams and the value chain.
Anti-corruption — Corruption is incompatible with the company’s ethics. Vicari Violland conducts its business according to principles of honesty, fairness and compliance with the rules and regulations prohibiting corruption in commercial transactions.
Gifts & invitations — Vicari Violland offers no gift or invitation likely to influence, or to be perceived as intended to influence, the judgment of the people concerned. Courtesy gifts remain acceptable only within the reasonable limits set by law and usual business practice. Employees never accept cash gifts.
Fair competition — Vicari Violland acts according to the principles of fair competition and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Conflicts of interest — The company does not take part in, nor seeks to influence, any decision in circumstances that could create a real or perceived conflict of interest, whether professional or personal, direct or indirect.
Forced labor & child labor — Vicari Violland is committed to respecting and upholding international human rights, eliminating all forms of illegal, forced or compulsory labor, and rejecting child labor.
Diversity & fairness — The company respects equal opportunity and strives to offer its employees a working environment free from discrimination or harassment. Employees are treated with fairness and dignity.
Labor relations — Vicari Violland respects the right of association as well as employees’ right to form or join the trade unions or workers’ organizations of their choice, and to take part in collective bargaining.
Working hours, pay & training — Vicari Violland complies with local legislation on working hours and minimum wages, and strives to offer development programs and training to its employees.
Health & safety at work — Vicari Violland deploys the necessary resources to guarantee health and safety in the workplace, through continuous improvement, the 5S method and compliance with applicable health and safety legislation.
Environment — Vicari Violland is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its activities and products, and to developing solutions that help preserve the environment and save energy. The company complies with applicable environmental legislation.
Product responsibility — Environmental, health and safety criteria are built into products and services in order to reduce their impact throughout their life cycle, while maintaining or improving quality. Vicari Violland provides accurate information on product composition and environmental impact, notably through REACH, RoHS and IMDS data where provided.
Conflict minerals — Vicari Violland is committed to taking measures to avoid illegal or unethical metal sourcing from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and neighboring countries. The company complies with the Dodd-Frank regulation and implements processes to ensure that the 3TG minerals contained in its products do not come from mines located in the DRC or surrounding regions.
EDF partnership: low-carbon electricity
Vicari Violland consumes electricity to produce machined components and relies on a partnership with EDF, committed to reducing CO₂ emissions.
Low carbon intensity — Thanks to EDF electricity generation that is largely CO₂-free, Vicari Violland’s partner shows a low carbon intensity of 17 g CO₂/kWh, according to the EU-27 2021 reference from the European Environment Agency mentioned in the charter.
Progressive coal phase-out — EDF has for several years supported the decommissioning of coal- and heavy-fuel-oil-fired power plants in Europe. Since 2017, the group has been involved in the Powering Past Coal Alliance coalition, which supports the progressive phase-out of coal under the Paris Agreement.
Energy mix — The charter highlights a mix combining nuclear and renewable energies, with EDF presented as having significant hydroelectric capacity in the European Union and as one of the major producers of renewable electricity and heat in Europe.
Fleet flexibility — In France, EDF is working to make the operation of its nuclear power plants more flexible in order to support the development of wind and solar power and manage their variability.
